Shifa Program Achievements

Quantity and Quality:

Over the last four years, the Program has provided more than 450 families with various types of medical assistance covering various medical and treatment sectors. The Program has also provided wheelchairs and other medical support equipment to about 90 individuals and has covered the expenses of over 50 surgeries ranging in complexity from kidney stones to cancer to open heart surgeries.

Shifa in the Media:

The Shifa Program has received distinguished media coverage through Noormina TV Channel and “Here is Amman” Program broadcasted by Dr. Saleem Al-Sharif who hosted an interview with the Program Director. Mizaj Radio also hosted the Program twice in its “On the Road” program delivered by Randah Karadsheh. Recently, Al Jazeerah TV hosted an interview with the Life Makers officials in its “This Morning” program which is delivered by Hibah Ghamrawi. The interview covered various Life Makers activities including the Shifa program.

Cooperation Agreement:

On September 16, 2010, the Life Makers Society signed an agreement with King Abdullah Hospital to strengthen cooperation between the two parties in the field of health care. Accordingly, the Hospital will provide comprehensive medical care to patients referred by the Shifa Program on the basis of least cost approved by the Physicians Union. The agreement also granted the Shifa Program a 25% discount on all costs of surgeries, in-patient care, and radiology and lab tests.

Saad's Story:

Saad is a 14-year old youth living with his family in a very humble home. For more than two years, he had been suffering form frequent ear infections (in the middle ear) which caused gradual loss of hearing and continuous puss excretion. He had also been suffering from nerve spasms and charges in the brain which made it difficult for him to resume his schooling properly.  His case was deteriorating because of his family's inability to pay for his medical treatment. We met with Saad's mother 1 1/2 years ago. Details of her story is on the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIJjRpfkMs. After Saad's case was adopted by the Shifa Program, Saad underwent two successful ear surgeries which cost JD 2,500. Thank God.

Um Mohammad's Family Story:

Abu Mohammad's family is made of 10 members suffering from very difficult living conditions. One of the children, Ahmed, is suffering form acute epilepsy seizures which require special costly treatment (JD 190 each month) which the family cannot afford by any means. The family had to make the difficult choice to give up Ahmed's medical treatment in order to sustain the university education of the other brother and sister. The Shifa Program covered Ahmed medical treatment over six months until his case was sponsored by an official medical establishment.
